Bench with a view

For those familiar with my interest in all things gothic, Whitby was always going to feel special. During my short break, I accidentally found the famous bench overlooking the harbour, which has a plaque marking the spot that inspired Bram Stoker to set part of Dracula in Whitby.
Sitting there, it was quite surreal to imagine how this lovely Yorkshire seaside town became part of one of the world's most famous gothic novels. With its dramatic coastline and abbey ruins, Whitby really does feel like a place where stories live and breathe.
That’s why I love tourism, exploring new places, and literature so much. Every destination has layers of history, culture and stories waiting to be discovered. Sometimes, all it takes is a walk, a beautiful view over the sea and a slightly windswept afternoon by the sea.
And yes, I absolutely did have a little “main character in a gothic novel” moment while standing there. Whitby sure has that effect on people.
Have you ever visited a place that felt completely tied to a book or story for you?
