Monthly Roundup - September

September’s been a bit of a blur: travel, tennis, day trips and return of silverware. I managed a short break to Nuremberg, squeezed in quite a few day trips, spent a considerable amount of time sitting beside tennis courts rather than being on one myself, and handed my trophy back. No silverware for me this year, so I’m having to rely on last year’s trophy photo for my sporting glory!

It has been a totally enjoyable month, where work is still ticking along in the background but there is enough going on outside of work to give the brain a proper change of scenery.

And then there was tennis. Lots and lots of tennis. As a spectator, I should add, although after watching enough matches I’m fairly sure I could now provide expert commentary on line calls, questionable shots and the psychological importance of the second serve. Whether anyone has actually asked for my analysis is another matter…

These little breaks and visits are always a super reminder of why I enjoy working in tourism translation so much. Good tourism content isn’t simply about transferring information from one language into another; it is about capturing the atmosphere, personality and reasons why someone might want to experience a place for themselves.

So, as September draws to a close, I’m heading into the next month with plenty of new memories, a full camera roll and, sadly, no trophy to polish. At least I still have the photo.

What has your September looked like – more travel, more work or a healthy mixture of both?
