Three laps around the Cathedral and a tennis ball
I completed three laps around the cathedral this lunchtime. On the second Tuesday of every month, Lincoln Cathedral runs the Mindful Mile, which is a chance to slow down, walk and discuss an interesting topic in a quiet setting. It's the same route, the same stones and the same views, yet somehow it always feels different.

On the second Tuesday of every month, Lincoln Cathedral runs the Mindful Mile, which is a chance to slow down, walk and discuss an interesting topic in a quiet setting.
It's the same route, the same stones and the same views, yet somehow it always feels different.
Halfway through my second lap, we finally spotted the famous tennis ball lodged high up on the south end of the cathedral. It became stuck there in 1914 when a boy threw it too high, and it has remained hidden in an archway ever since. It's such a tiny detail, yet it's weathered every storm and season quietly since then.
And that’s what I love. You don't always see something new, but you often notice things differently.
Whether it's a centuries-old building or a book you've read a dozen times, there's always another layer waiting to be discovered if you take the time to look.
What small detail have you noticed recently that made you pause?
