When a Membership No Longer Fits – It’s Time to Reassess

Every now and then, it’s worth stepping back and reviewing the memberships and subscriptions you’ve signed up for in your business. What felt like the right investment a year ago may not serve the same purpose today, especially as your work, goals, and priorities shift.

I recently did exactly that and made the decision to cancel one of my memberships. Not because it was bad – quite the opposite – but because it simply no longer matched what I need at this stage of my business. Instead, I’ve chosen to join a new initiative that feels genuinely energising: a space that brings together community support, shared learning, visibility opportunities, and real networking – both online and in person.

For anyone running a freelance or independent business, those elements matter more than ever. We spend so much time focused on delivering client work that it’s easy to forget how valuable the right peer network can be – not just for knowledge, but for momentum, collaboration, and fresh perspective.

Sometimes the smartest business decision isn’t adding something new. It’s letting go of something that no longer fits so you can make room for something better.

Have you reviewed your memberships or subscriptions recently – and are they still giving you the value you expected when you first joined?
